Re: [RC] 5 mph average - Kathy MayedaI find the slower I ride, the sorer I am afterwards. I tend to float above my horse at the trot and "ride my bones" so that there is little muscle tension. But my first two endurance rides were exhausting, but once you get through them it starts to become pretty routine.K. ----- Original Message ----- From: "D'Arcy Demianoff-Thompson" <liberty4640@xxxxxxxxx> To: "Kathy Klenk" <kramspott@xxxxxxxxxxx>; "Jessica Spoone-Raines" <jspoone@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Cc: <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, October 08, 2007 8:50 AM Subject: Re: [RC] 5 mph average Well, I am in no hurray to do my first competition period. I have my horse at an average speed of 3 mph right now. I intentionally ride her with a 27 year old arabian. He is NEVER in a hurry to beat out anyone. However, if it ever looks like he is my horse will try to overtake him every time. So, next I'll be riding with a faster paced horse. That will give me the opportunity to see if my horse has a competitive desire to be out front or if she just wants to be in front of that particular horse. In any case - it helps me to keep her at a steady pace and not let her think she has to blow herself out around every horse. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
