Re: [RC] 5 mph average - D'Arcy Demianoff-ThompsonWell, I am in no hurray to do my first competition period. I have my horse at an average speed of 3 mph right now. I intentionally ride her with a 27 year old arabian. He is NEVER in a hurry to beat out anyone. However, if it ever looks like he is my horse will try to overtake him every time. So, next I'll be riding with a faster paced horse. That will give me the opportunity to see if my horse has a competitive desire to be out front or if she just wants to be in front of that particular horse. In any case - it helps me to keep her at a steady pace and not let her think she has to blow herself out around every horse. I might add it is very different training a horse for an endurance competition compared to a race track event! And I get sore in places I never knew I had muscle! LOL! Yes, anatomy of the human body should be studied prior to putting it under so much stress and duress! LOL! D'Arcy D'Arcy L.
