Or, you just have long legs, a short torso, good
balance, quick reflexes, and a fear of hitting the ground hard.
:-)
That latest attribute saved me from being bucked
off an angry quarter horse at a show several years ago... to the awe of 1 or 2
former Olympians who commented I rode the buck better than some of their
companions would have...
Never, ever ride a horse away from the group when
trying to warm up... :-)
There are times to fall off, and there are times
where falling off is the most fearful option and only the Hand of God keeps one
in the saddle. :-)
When we had a string of dude horses/lesson
classes years ago, one of the first questions for a new client
was: " How much have you ridden?" If the answer
was "Lots" the next was "How many times have you
fallen off a horse?" When they said "Never" we picked out the
safest, slowest mount, at least to start.
Our feeling was, and mine still is, if you
haven't fallen off, you haven't been on much.
On the other hand, as we get older, and hopefully
smarter, it happens less often. {;>)
I always used to say, "I NEVER fall off". I don't say that anymore,
having come off twice in the last couple of years. My balance isn't what
it used to be, I've found that as I've aged and my body has changed that
I have to work harder.
