Re: [RC] starting horses late - work ethic - rides2farSeems to me the advantages and disadvantages lie in how the horse looks> at> life. Something I haven't yet seen addressed is work ethic. Depending> upon the particular horse this can be a very big issue. I've experienced > an older unstarted horse who has been spoiled and has no interest in> working. He's never had a job and he's not interested in starting one now, When I got my present job as a high school art teacher I replaced a coach who had let a running poker game go in that classroom for about 3 years. He claimed he had no money for materials so they couldn't do anything. The principal warned me that it would be a *tough* job the first year because the students weren't used to having to work in that class. Well, the students *could not wait* to do work. They were bored out of their minds doing nothing. Maybe some lethargic horses might have a problem starting work, but the average Arab is like the bored hyper kid that's driving everyone crazy wanting something to do. 7 seems to thoroughly enjoy every outting. First time his scenery has ever changed and he's enjoying it.
