[RC] Metrically challenged (was: electolytes, etc.) - k s swigartFor those of you who are metrically challenged and want to better understand Leonard's question about just how much electrolytes can you get into a horse by feeding it rather than shoving them down your horse's throat, one ounce is about the equivalent of 30 grams. Additionally (according to at least one study): "Sweat losses in Na+, Cl- and K+ during a 10 hour endurance competition can be grossly estimated respectively to 300g, 550g and 120g." So, to "replace" this, you would have to provide your horse over 2 pounds of salts. Just to put all of this in perspective. kat Orange County, Calif. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
