I like the Woolback and Coolback pads. I use both the double thick on most of my horses, but one has a slightly dippy back and a triple thick fills in the space nicely and I’ve never had any sore backs on the horses. I have recently started using a Thinline pad (supposed to reduce concussion)between my Woolback & the saddle. I can’t say for sure that the Thinline is the reason, but my backache of 17 years left during the Tevis ride and has not come back since. Saddle pads come in different shapes to match the saddle, so you may not want to invest in an expensive one until you have the saddle worked out. Also,I think treeless saddles require a special pad to help distribute weight better. Keep; your wife’s saddle, she won’t mind (:>) she’ll get a new one!

Robert asked:
Ok, what about saddle pads.I just can't believe the
saddle I am currently testing doesn't fit.It looks
perfect and I am guessing I am seeing some residual
soreness from the previous tester.I am going to call
and see if I can have an additional week to just let him
rest and try it again but I need a better saddle pad
anyway so I thought I might look for some recommendations
on those to match it up with after his rest period.
