Re: [RC] Wierd Ga. disease AND now Lost frog--gee-whiz - Don HustonHello L gin,You certainly are under some kind of "black cloud" too bad it doesn't have any rain. :-) I have used straight bleach and 50/50 diluted bleach/water for years when thrush shows up during mud season here in San Diego. Has worked great on my horses. I do not soak the hooves, I spray the soles. I pick out the big chunks, leave the rest, spray the sole real good, drop the hoof and do the next. No fuss no muss and a cool splatter pattern on my pants for a bonus. Do it every day for a week then every other day for a while and keep cutting back if the thrush stays away. Frogs can get a fungus that eats the frog and makes them weak and small. Bleach does not work very good on fungus. I use EasySoaker boots and a borax solution and get good results. I have been using powdered Borax hand soap with lanolin. One electrolyte size scoop (1.5 oz?) per gallon of water. I leave the boots on for at least an hour with a few short walks to pump the solution into the cracks, keep adding solution as it splashes out until the gallon is gone. I did it every other day for 2 weeks last year and the frogs improved a lot then I cut back to every month or so. I need to do that routine again, thanks for reminding me. ;-) Don Huston At 07:31 PM 9/6/2007 Thursday, you wrote: Geez guys-- not only do 3 of 5 have this weird new disease/syndrome and I am backpedaling to take care of this mess after( being down with The staph infection and cold) and bathing and trimming (which I was behind Don Huston at cox dot net SanDiego, Calif =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
