Re: [RC] AERC National Championships with an International - Joe LongBeth Walker wrote:... At our local rides here (PS), we don't have PR "gates" at all -- the P&R people circulate around (hay and water are available), and a rider yells for "P&R" when they are ready. I would guess that, on average, a rider doesn't have to wait more than a minute or two for a P&R person to come free during the really peak times. For people riding for miles or completion, a minute or two is rarely a big deal. For people racing for place, it is. In fact, at the later checks, SECONDS are important. I've always liked it MUCH, MUCH better to have my time recorded when I pass through the gate (or over a line), then verified by a pulse-taker -- with my official time being the time I presented, not the time a pulse-taker actually got done taking the pulse. At rides I managed, at the last vet check, times (recovery and out time) were done to the nearest second and not the nearest minute.
