[RC] tendon injury rest--stall vs pasture - Karla Watson
One of my horses got a tendon injury (ultrasound:
DDT swelling & some damage where it connects to check ligament) and vet said
no stall rest needed. He said to leave her on pasture (where she lives and
prefers to be) for 6 months, no riding. I have not heard of this and always
assumed they needed 30 days or more stall rest. I wondered if it because she is
a very high spirited mare who may not do well in stall confinement. I've also
known people to leave them on pasture and they healed up just as well. Any
thoughts? Most of her healing time will be during winter and 1st part of
February will be the time I can bring her back. Does stall rest shorten the time
or is it about equal?
