Re: [RC] Off horses and LD - matt medeirosThe structure given to a horse to support the rest of its body, is based on a 'suspension system" so to speak. Taking one of these mechanical safe guards out of the equation at this time may not cause pain, however , disaster is bound to happpen as far as pain and soundness. The fetlock is a major component in flex and weight compensation. I believe it would be foolish to ask this animal to do 25 miles carrying extra weight. i am not a vet but an animal lover and I would strongly suggest to your friend not to go forward with this horse. I seriously do not think the vet would agree that this horse should do an LD'

I'm asking this for a friend who owns a mare who has a fused fetlock. The mare travels "off" because there's no flexibility in the joint. Her vet says there's no pain involved. Would most ride vets let this mare do an LD? I told her I was skeptical so decided to ask the RideCamp Experts. <g> Dianna Dream Catcher Arabians http://www.dreamcatcherarabians.homestead.com
