How about calling or emailing
the head vets at the rides your friend is interested in. Or have the ride
manager pose the question to the head vet?

I'm asking this for a friend
who owns a mare who has a fused fetlock. The mare travels "off"
because there's no flexibility in the joint. Her vet says there's no pain
involved. Would most ride vets let this mare do an LD? I told her I was skeptical
so decided to ask the RideCampExperts. <g>
