Just a suggestion ... a waterproofing spray for camp gear.

Here is one:  Grangers Spray-on Waterproofing for synthetic fabrics  
(campmor.com)  I think Granger's is sold in other camp stores as well.

I haven't tried that brand, but I have reinforced the waterproofing  
on some other blankets I had with another "camp spray"  (can't  
remember the name).  It seemed to work as long as it didn't go  
through the wash.  Then I had to reapply.
