The comment on a 22 rimfire is right.  Put in the proper place, it will work 
but a larger caliber is much more sure.  The larger caliber also has the 
advantage that it can double for personal defense against 2 legged 
predators.

It is generally accepted that .380 ACP (aka 9mm Kurtz) is the minimum for 
self defense, but a .22 sure beats pointy stick any day.  There are a bunch 
of good websites that can get you started thinking about self defense, a 
private email will get you a list.

Please note:  It is my fervent hope that this will not restart the 
carry/nocarry thread on Ridecamp.
