Re: [RC] Which fetlock boots? - Don HustonHello Kristi,Even with fetlock boots you must file the screw heads flat with a good coarse metal file but leave some of the "+" so the screwdriver will still work to turn the screws. If you use a grinder get a very coarse wheel and just lightly touch and go or the screws will heat up and melt the rubber. If you don't smooth the screw heads they will still shred the boots. My wife's horse really tore up his RH ankle in just one 2 hour ride. I smoothed the screws and used splint boots until the scabs were gone and all the hair was back. We have done several 1-2 hour rides without splint boots and there is no visible damage being done anymore. A longer ride might be a different story, we will see. Anyone have any strong opinions, pro or con, on different brands? The style I have pictured is the Woof sport fetlock boot, but since I've never used any sort of leg protection before, I'm clueless on what would be the best one for a distance horse. I don't want a splint style boot, just fetlock protection.
