Re: [RC] Morgans in Endurance - Angie FuraI have to jump in here too. I have a good friend that has a Morgan who will be totally capable of being competitive. He is not yet, but that's because he just started doing 50's this past spring.
This horse has routinely pulsed down with my Arab when my friend and I have ridden together at rides. I've never seen her use ice water; in fact, her crewing techniques are exactly the same as mine. We live and compete in the southeast where the heat and humidity are merciless.
I don't know much about Morgan breeding so I don't know what "style" Morgan he is but I can tell you is tall and lean. He is not heavily muscled. Are there different styles that could make pulsing down easier for some and not others?

My older Morgan, Son Beam Sirprize, aka Sonny, finished top 10 or 20 on a number of rides. His final ride in '99 was Lassen Challenge. We came in 3rd out of 44 starters in a time of 3:56 - we flew down the trail. In '92, we did Lassen in 3:59 and finished 19th out of 77 starters. Couldn't believe we had gone that fast and not top tenned. :-) Lassen Challenge was always a fun ride. Did the ride 10 times.
I loved the old Las Trampas ride. We came in 16th out of 90 starters in '91 and 17th out of 72 starters in '92. And we came in 5th out of 30 starters at Flatwoods in '92.
My younger Morgan, Triton Wichita, was ridden by Karen Silva at Las Trampas in '99. They were 2nd out of 44 starters.
Karen's unregistered Morgan, Goldie, had a great career. Amongst other rides, Goldie top tenned three rides in '91, two rides in '92, came in 11th out of 119 starters in '94 at Lake Sonoma, and won and got BC at Lassen Challenge in '94. Jazon Wonders rode Goldie in '93. Won & got BC at the High Desert ride, came in 2nd out of 123 starters at Camp Far West.
Perhaps in the East, with the higher humidity, it's harder on Morgans, but they can be very competitive here on the West coast.
