Re: [RC] [RC] Tevis--Stagg Newman & Last Chance to Deadwood Leg - TypeF \(Jackie Floyd\)I have to say that's funny, but I know it's not funny to crews at the time. All it takes is one wrong number off. We don't get rider names, only numbers. I got a little frusted in the morning because the radio operators kept giving me duplicate numbers. Every time I punched in one that was already IN somewhere, or OUT somewhere, it was ding at me and I'd have to go run down the number and see how long ago it was in the database. Sometimes the dups were exact dups. Sometimes there were totally wrong numbers. One time they handed me an entire page of 20 riders that were exact duplicates. Some poor tired radio operator at some stop obviously thought he hadn't transmitted that sheet yet.It makes one worry that they've missed a rider number completely when they can't go back and tell me it was really rider 91 instead of 61 or something. All I can do is hope that everyone is accounted for at the end of the night. Both years, so far, we only had one rider to account for and both instances, there was someone in the room that had the answer, either from vet cards that came in or horse transport records. Everybody has to remember that the webcast is still a fairly new thing and REALLY NICE to have to follow the race, but there wasn't one for the majority of the years of this ride. The webcast is also a great help to the managers of this ride during the race, but it definitely NOT gospel and if there is a question about something, we always go back to the vet cards that have the official times on them. So remember to take what you see on the posted webcast vetcheck reports with a grain of salt. :) Jackie ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ranelle Rubin" <raneller@xxxxxxx> To: <typef@xxxxxxxxxxx>; <coldeye22@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; <ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, August 02, 2007 4:44 PM Subject: Re: [RC] Tevis--Stagg Newman & Last Chance to Deadwood Leg Yes it can and does happen that there are communication errors..the website showed me getting pulled at Last Chance (50 miles), then showing up at the River Crossing at 88 miles...I know I was singing Steve Miller's "Fly like an Eagle"...but that would be some flight down the canyon! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
