Re: [RC] Perception it must be - Sharon LevasseurYes, that's my point. When one of us pops around a corner doing a 12mph trot, the average trail user probably thinks that we're about to trample them to death. Put 3 or 4 horses side-by-side and whether they're trotting, cantering OR galloping you're gonna scare the bejeezus outta those people. SO, I'm just saying, let's remember that **even during a race** we need to be cautious on trails we share with other users. Don't gallop around corners, be courteous when you come up on people on foot/bike. Just because it's a race doesn't mean the world revolves around us (I'll be the first to say I'm guilty of thinking that way from time to time!). I would even suggest not taking up the entire lane when riding down paved roads if there is vehicle traffic. That is something I witness with my own eyes all the time. I can understand two horses side by side, but why do 3-5 horses need to ride side by side on pavement? Why not single file in the sand alongside? I can just see myself with a real mess on my hands if this landowner sees anything this year, and I can't be the only one out there dealing with this sort of thing. Sharon Levasseur, Ride Manager Hot Toddy Hustle I & II September 22-23, 2007 Orland, Maine www.zegifts.com/HTH Quoting Sheila_Larsen@xxxxxxx: Whoa it must be the reallly be the perception of the land owner that horses weighing 2,000 to 3,000 pounds are galloping at 40 mph. A quick google search showed thoroughbreds at 40 mph and something about a quarter horse clocked at 50 mph at the finish. They don't weight 2,000 pounds, I am thinking on the lines of draft horses running. Lots of noise.... not much speed. The wind flew. God told to wind to condense itself and out of the flurry came the horse. But with the spark of spirit the horse flew by the wind itself. - Marguerite Henry's King of the Wind =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
