This was the scary part...NO FEVER, and she was not
off her feed....just a sudden, very significant swelling to all
four legs....we did blood test and it came positive
for erlchiosis <sp>))....treatment is tetracycline shots........and retest
for
the erlichia.....btw, it happened in the
fall....
here is the kicker, I probably would have waited to
see if if the swelling went down a day or two later, EXCEPT I had remembered
reading something on RIDECAMP about a horse with swollen legs.....that turned
out to be tick fever....and
It was the Swanton NATRC ride. California. Beautiful,
redwood forest and coastal valleys and mountains but TONS of poison oak!
What are the symptoms of tick fever? We didn't check for that. My
horse doesn't have a fever and seems completely normal except the swollen legs
- all 4, but mostly back.
