[RC] Making Sense Out Of Tragedy - D'Arcy Demianoff-ThompsonHi Karen, Agreed, unless you were the rider, you really don't know! However, as a rider, trainer, and breeder! I know what I am feeling or should be feeling at any given time up on a horse. If I am too tired and I don't think that I have what it takes at any given moment to make the best decision for the horse under me...I don't belong on the top of that horse. There is nothing more adrenalin rushing than taking a horse down a race track, at 35 mph for 5/8 of a mile! BELIEVE ME! However, at any given moment you KNOW when you horse has gone out from under you! Ask any jockey that has been to a stewards inquiry for possibly 'rating' a horse back! Nine times out of ten it is to save that horse! I understand your defense of this rider. I also understand the public's perception of what should or should not have been done at any given moment. It is the only way they can make sense out of their disappointment. If there is one common denominator of all equine enthusiasts it is summed up in one word - passion! Passion for what they believe to be good, true, and right! Just as you have voiced your opinion, just is, as those, who have voiced thier opinions! God Bless the horses that fall victim to us humans!
