It was a brisk 51 degrees at 4AM when 284 runners took to the trail with Chariots of Fire playing the background.? Man, that start always moves me!? Riders were up tending to their horses, thinking to themselves, better them than me!? The horses started at 5AM with dawn just cracking the horizen.? Eighteen 100 milers started, including John Crandall who flew back from California where he is getting ready for the Tevis next weekend.? ?Steve Rojek, Hernon Barbosa, Patti Pizzo, Connie?Walker and Lana Wright (her horse with a new rider), amung others will be out there all day.??
In the meanwhile, the 75's? will have a leisurely breakfast before their start at 9AM.? They will join up with the 100's at hold #2.??
Who knows when the 50's will get up, they don't start until 2PM.??
We will try to keep you posted during the race. Jo Steele, computer guru extraudinaire, is handling the timing and scoring.? If she can sneak in a minute or two to access the wireless, you will get updates.? I am off to start the 75's.
