[RC] Horse death/permission to treat at Big Horn - rides2farJust reading the accounts going round of the Central region's "rude riders" losing a horse after the Big Horn this weekend. I hope all the facts come out, but regardless, one thing did jump out at me that *I* need to be more careful about. If you take a horse that belongs to someone else to a ride, or send one of yours with a rider, you should send a signed document giving permission to treat. Might not have helped this horse by the time they sought treatment, but the idea of that vet having someone pull up to her place with a horse in extreme distress trying to reach the owner on the phone for permission to treat was bad, and something we *can* avoid. Heck, I am in charge of a neighbor's horses this week and though they left their vet's number, I don't have anything that states I can give "permission to treat". Not really good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
