I don't see why AERC can't have a championship event limited to it's qualified members without being ridiculed for not making it "open" or "invitational" to non-members. If there are not enough qualified entrants interested to make it financially practical, then just don't have the event. Isn't every other AERC ride open to whoever wants to enter (except for minimal qualifications for Tevis)? If some ride manager wants to put on an open or invitational international championship challenge more power to 'em. Just don't call it the AERC championship.
While paying AERC membership dues may seem like a petty form of exclusion, what defines an organization without such?
