Just so you know, alfalfa is readily available in Auburn. In fact, one of the local feed stores sets up a booth at the fairgrounds and will bring whatever you need right to you! Because of California's huge dairy industry lots of alfalfa is grown in the state and it's very high quality. So, you might want to think about resupplying once you get here. It will save you fuel since you won't be hauling that hay weight across the country.
