Re: [RC] [RC] Re:RC What Shoes Really Do - Laney HumphreyI agree, Chris. My horse, who was barefoot for 9 months until recently, has flat soles. He has always been very surefooted but I actually think his shoes give him some concavity that, in some circumstances, make him better able to grip the surface than when he was flatfootedly barefooted. I was riding the other day with a friend whose horse is barefoot & has moderately concave soles. Our trails are littered with slippery oak leaves and dead grass right now. That mare was slipping and sliding much more than my (shod) horse.Laney Chris Paus wrote: I wouldn't say this is necessarily so. Last year, a friend was riding my gelding who is shod. I was riding my mare who has been barefoot all her life. Both horses are agile as cats on hills. We had to ride down a very slick hill,... it had rained thenight before. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
