RE: [RC] [RC] RC What Shoes Really Do - Juli JakubI usually do not get involved in this debate, but I have to agree out of frustration that some horses cannot go barefoot. I have a little grade paint that I have been trying to go barefoot with for three years...everyone tells me he will toughen up ect...well after his trims he is too sore for three weeks even on soft grass pasture and he is NEVER not sore on hard dirt, rocks, gravel of any size. I have done everything and tried everything including certified barefoot trimmers ect....we are going to put front shoes on him. It is just not fair to him to watch him hobble and tip toe around all the time so that I can say he goes barefoot and save a few bucks. My other three are all doing very well barefoot and my two five year olds have never had shoes on yet, although my mare may need them for eventing if I go that route with her...I am a big believer in studs for cross country when the conditions warrent them. But barefoot has been great for them and my TB's feet look great for getting the shoes off her...but this poor guy I just have to throw in the towel and do what is best for him. I think the barefoot/shoe debate is really a useless circle. It just depends on the individual horse and doing what is best for their hoof conformation and doing what is best depending on their job. I will still pull his shoes in the winter as he gets the winter completely off anyway.JMHO Juli

Juli Jakub

The Air of Heaven is that which blows between a horse's ears.

~ arabian proverb

From: Carolyn Burgess <carolyn@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Reply-To: carolyn@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To: Judy Houle <judyshatir@xxxxxxxxx>, ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [RC] RC What Shoes Really Do Date: Tue, 10 Jul 2007 06:13:35 -0700 (PDT) _________________________________________________________________ Need a brain boost?
