Re: [RC] riding a wet horse - Don HustonMe too Alice,I have been riding my horses wet or damp for years. Long ago I decided that; sucking in all that dust while brushing them off; then still having to clean the sweat-muddied pad; then watching the after riding hosed off and clean horse roll in the dirt for 5 minutes; was not the best order of things. Now I almost always hose the horse off first especially if it is muddy out or even cold (below 50 is really cold here in SoCal :-[) then saddle up and ride'em dry. The big plus is my tack stays very clean. The 900lb piglet still rolls in the dirt for 5 minutes but who cares, he was clean when it counted. The other plus to riding a wet horse when he's fresh is that the saddle pad and girth grip the wet fur much better than slick dry fur giving me a much more solid saddle fit for those start-of-the-ride antics without pulling the cinch way tight. Just my experience, Don Huston At 08:04 AM 7/9/2007 Monday, you wrote: It's been so muddy and nasty where we are that I've been regularly hosing my horses off before I ride them. It seems to help them stay cool when they're ridden as well.
