RE: [RC] Rain rot remedy, anyone? - Jim Holland

Put Vaseline liberally on the scabs and leave it overnight to soften the scabs.  Pick off the scabs and wash with Betadine shampoo….it may take multiple applications of Vaseline to get them all.  Yes, it’s very messy, but effective.  Don’t worry about the hair…it will grow back.

Some horses are more prone to this than others.  Sun of Dimanche+ attracts EVERTHING that could possibly grow on a horse. This is a constant problem for him. If you have a horse like this, groom him frequently and remove any small scabs of rain rot.  If you don’t and it becomes large patches, you have a major problem.  Removing the scabs is painful if they are dry because the hair comes out with them.

Subject: [RC] Rain rot remedy, anyone?

My gelding has been wet from the continuous rain in TX for days on end. Now he has "rain rot" on his upper back, hips, etc. I am pretty sure it's a fungus and have bathed him in vinegar water, but now what. How do I treat the condition and get the hair to re-grow? Any suggestions or experience with this would be appreciated!

Thanks,

TW
