[RC] USEF approval of new drug - k s swigartMaryanne said: Hopefully the FEI will impose some limits on drugs for endurance....hopefully. The FEI imposes limits on drugs for all disciplines, not just endurance. To date the only drug that I know of that the FEI allows to be used during FEI competitions (even show jumping competitions) is Omeprazole (although it may also allow estrous regulating drugs too, I don't know for sure). There has LOOOOOOONG been a dichotomy between the USEF (and the AHSA before it) rules and the FEI rules with respect to the use of drugs. Up until Omprazole a few years ago, the FEI has always had a "No foreign substance" rule while the USEF (and the AHSA before it) has long operated on a "theraputic substance" rule. Up until the advent of Omeprazole, the FEI's drug rule and the AERC were pretty much the same....and even now, the rules for USEF sanctioned endurance rides are required to follow the FEI's "No Foreign Substance" rule whether they are FEI rides or not (of which, John Teeter says, there has only ever been one). If y'all are unhappy about the USEF's Theraputic Substance Policy that allows the use of a bunch of different drugs (including a bunch of NSAIDs), you should have been unhappy with it long ago. Adding this one drug to the list is virtually irrelevant. kat Orange County, Calif. :) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
