Re: [RC] 'to finish is to win' statement question?/REPLY - Linda MarinsFrom very early in the AERC history "To Finish is to Win" was a well used slogan so much so that it has achieved the status of a common law trademark. A legitimate complaint could be made against other users of the phrase in connection with horse activities. I'm not so sure this is true. Unregistered trademarks are worth about as much as the organization is willing to pay to defend them, after some deep pockets has gone and registered it. Remember the blow-up five or six years ago about Ariat trying to register "Tevis" as a trademark for their new riding sneaker? On the other hand, maybe you're right. I never got the details of the story, but the WSTF did get Ariat to back off. Dunno how they did it, or whether WSTF subsequently registered "Tevis" themselves.
