Re: [RC] Cost of Hay - Energy - rides2farI'm just curious why we can't use Kudzoo? Heck, the southeast has enough of > that to fule the world for 20 years. If they would just eat the leaves it would be OK I guess, but a friend of mine whose place is covered up with it said one day his mare was just eating a kudzoo vine like it was spaghetti and after a while he got worried and pulled on it and pulled it right back up her throat pretty much intact. She wasn't chewing the vine up completely. Sounds dangerous to me. There used to be a riding stables near here that backed up to the side of a mountain on a bald hill that was covered with kudzoo...appropriately called "Kudzoo hill" (Anybody who did the High Adventure Endurance Ride in the 90s ...that's where you started). The stables didn't notice for a day or so that one horse was missing and hadn't come in with the others. Finally somebody out riding in the field happened up on this poor horse completely tangled up in kudzoo and in bad shape from dehydration. It's a strong vine. I just got back from a 3 mile walk down my road and was really admiring the lush grass along the ditches. If it wasn't for the darned horse flies I"d get myself a paperback book, throw a hackamore on a horse and take him out for a graze. I'm headed out to the feed store to buy some beet pulp. I hate messing with it, but it's a good hay stretcher and they really seem to like it lately.
