RE: [RC] OT- Pyrethrin Flea & Tick Dip ? - Jim HollandJust about all fly sprays are Pyrethrin based, FLICKS being a notable exception. Pyrethrin is extracted from the Chrysanthemum plant. This is also what Pyranha uses in their barn spray systems. Pyrethrin by itself is harmless to animals and shouldn't cause any irritation; however many fly sprays have other ingredients which "enhance" the natural nerve toxins in Pyrethrin. When choosing a fly spray, it's important to read the label. Some of THAT stuff I don't want to spray on my horses. I don't know about the Flea & Tick Dip. As for the fly spray, I use Pyranha fly spray, which is pyrethrin based. It works very well, but I am careful not to get it in places like under the girth area or other hot, constricted placed. Did that once, and my horse's skin got very irritated. It's fine for legs and places that are not under tack. On May 21, 2007, at 7:42 PM, Raven wrote: I know someone who is using Pyrethrin Flea & Tick Dip on horses to control ticks. Has anyone even heard of doing this? I think that Pyrethrin can be found in some fly sprays...right? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
