RE: [RC] RC: Electrolyte Use - heidi

I'm not Nik (and I'll be interested in Nik's response, too) but two unrelated points come to mind with regard to this question:

1)  As a human, I do not carry a hindgut around with me full of a slurry on which I can draw for reserves of both e-lytes and fluids.

2)  As a human, I have to be VERY cautious of my sodium intake in order to maintain my health.  Just eating a few salty potato chips has repercussions.  The huge public awareness of sodium content of foods underscores the need for caution with regard to overingestion, and although not everyone shares my health issues, the public at large is cautioned that sodium is something that should be ingested only in moderation.

Nik,

In humans how much of our base electrolytes can we lose before medical
problems sit in? I know this is not 1-1 since there are some species
difference between horses and humans particularly when it comes to
potassium. But the critical levels would I think be comparable.
