Re: [RC] 30 Min Rule - rides2far"Maybe a compromise to your suggestion of a vet check between 30and 60> minutes could include a pulse recovery before 30 minutes, and a lameness> eval between 30 and 60 to detect those horses that were indeed running in> pain?" Geez, would everybody quit trying to take my completion! :-P (just kidding a little but kinda serious) I think I've got a pretty good reputation for taking care of my horses but this *is* an athletic event. If you feel *nothing* afterwards, you didn't get even remotely close to your potential. When my daughter comes home from a basketball game she talks about what hurts. Did she over do it? No, she *did something*. That's healthy. After a ride I feel it, doesn't mean I wasn't up to the task. Means I did what I'm capable of. I'll be fine in a little while. I remember coming in from a 100 and feeling fine, then I sat down for a few minutes and almost couldn't get back up. Everything just kinda knotted up. Didn't last long, I was fine. Just meant I'd done a hard physical activity and it was great, to be honest, when I quit feeling like that after a ride I'll do something to make it harder so I will feel that way! No, I don't want horses limping around after rides, or standing like sawhorses with their heads down. I want mine bright eyed and looking good, but I have had my horse looking stiff 30 min. after a 100 and the next morning he was literally trotting on the end of the lead as I tried to walk him around camp. The sport is meant to test us. I don't think the folks who instigated "Fit to Continue" meant for it to become, "Can't look look like he left the barn".
