Re: [RC] [RC] The Price of Gas - Barbara McCraryThis applies to every business there is. People do not go into business just to please the rest of the world. They go into business to make money so they, too, can feed their families, clothe themselves, keep a roof over their heads, drive their cars, etc. I have to laugh when I see bumper stickers that say, "Food for people, not for profit." Why would a farmer grow food if not for profit so he can support himself and his family? The Russians tried that policy...no one made a profit, they were all to work for the glory of the state and everyone would get paid (whether they worked or not.) So what happened in Russia? People were starving, because the farmers had no motivation to grow food. They were going to be paid by the state anyway, so why bother to work?I second Joe's assessment of business motivation. I still believe in capitalism. It may not be perfect, but it works. If the oil companies couldn't make a profit selling gasoline, they would stop selling it. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
