I think the basis for the qualifications, which is to set an objective level of competence, skill, and conditioning to qualify for championship events, is a good intention also. But I think that the "Certification of Qualification" one obtains at an FEI event should not be a fixed time like 10:40 (or 13;20 ...). Rather, it might be related to the course, the weather, and the competition at any FEI CEI*** 160km event. So, for example all finishers who complete with +20% of the first place finisher would achieve their CoC. When there is a desire to "raise the bar" and make the competing field more elite , then make it +15% or +10% of the first place finisher. (and a least 1 person at every CEI*** 160km would earn their CoC:) There are other refinements one could place on the CoC, but in general, if they made the time associated with it relative to the trail and the competition on a given day, then I'd be ok with that criteria. The rider and horse history components (2 metabolic pulls etc.) are fine by me and likely might be extended even. I do think there is a need to prove you're good enough to pony up with the big boys:) jt =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
