Re: [RC] [RC] Skito pads - Orthro-Flex saddles - Sisu West RanchWendy and I have never used an actual pad with OF saddles. If the flexable panels are adjusted by shimming for the horse (actually quite rarely needed with all but the earliest OF) there is no need for a pad.On the other hand, I am lazy and do not like to take booties off and wash them. I put a 100% wool blanket on the horse, a layer of rubber antislip drawer liner, and then the saddle. The blanket can be used 4 times if it is the kind you fold before washing in the automatic washer. The frequent washing does not seem to significantly shorten the life (some of our blankets are ~25 yrs old), and the horse always has a clean surface next to his skin. We both have done CTR* in the Midwest, and have not lost points for sore backs, so the system works. Ed Ed & Wendy Hauser 2994 Mittower Road Victor, MT 59875 *CTR is called "Competitive Riding" in the Midwest and is run under UMECRA rules. No horsemanship judging, but a hard look for sore bodies and gait abnormalities.
