[RC] - mrsdThe year was 1968. I was working in a mobil bank in Independence, Calif. A bipity blonde came in and cashed a check. Something was said about horses and she said that she was going to ride the Tevis Cup with a rancher by the the name of Bill Thornburg. She didn't make it that year but took my wife Carolyn to the ride to help crew Bill & his daughters Tracy & Callie. She came home and said that we had to do it. We attempted the Tevis in 1970 but she pulled at the Thumb & I made it to Michigan Bluff. Carolyn & son Dennis went again in 1972 & Carolyn, after being dead last at Michigan Bluff Picked up three Juniors and with the expertise of Linda and Cathy Creighton managed to pass 1/3 of the field. This led to our being rided managers for a total of five years. In 1972 our ride had Donna Fitzgerald, Sam Arnold, Hal Hall & Donna's son who won the 50. Our last ride was in 1975 and the winner was Bernice Kalland and she was also BC. That woman could really ride. Our family has gone on to 12 Tevis completions.
