[RC] our recruitment - mrsdCupThe year was 1968 and I was working in a mobil bank in Independence, Ca. a bippity blond came in and cashed a check. Her name was Bev Reilly and she was really into horses. She was entered in the Tevis Cup ride and was going with Bill Thornburg. Bev didn't make it that year but ended up taking my wife, Carolyn to help crew Bill. We entered our first ride in 1970. Tevis Cup. Oh well..She made it to the Thumb & I was able to get to Michigan Bluff. We ended up sponsoring a ride for five years and the second year 1972 saw Dona Fitzgerald, Her son , Sam Arnold, & Hal Hall show us what enderance was about. Carolyn finished Tevis in 1972 and the rest of the family followed/ To Date this great sport and life has led to 12 Tevis finishes. Many of the riders drove 3/4 Ton Chevy's with a stock rack. Kicked the manure out & slept in the truck bed.
