As a longtime Californian (family since 1890), I take some exception to being included in the fruits and nuts category, as I'm sure do other Californians. Someone once told me that the reason we have so many fruits and nuts is the weather. In many places in CA, the weather is conducive to odd living arrangements...under bridges, in the woods, in trees, etc. A person told me once that they did not have such people living in the county where she lived because "they winter-kill." Meaning, it is far too cold to survive these living arrangements in that area. Whatever...my parents raised me on numerous "colloquialisms", one of which was, "Everyone is queer but me and thee, and sometimes I think thee a bit queer, too." And that was in the times when queer meant "peculiar" not the current definition.I try really hard to remember that we do not all think alike.
