Re: [RC] vet check questions - Laney HumphreyI don't really have a good idea as to why he won't eat anything wet at "lunch." He scarfs down Eq. Sr., carrots, apples, and hay, preferably someone else's. He does like to see what others are eating and try it too for sure. I also make sure he's very well fed before the ride so I don't really worry unless his gut sounds are low. (Probiotics have helped his gut sounds a whole lot.) Just like with me, what I eat during a ride doesn't matter nearly as much as the fact that I am eating. He's not going to die if he doesn't eat beet pulp during a ride.Laney sherman wrote: Two of my horses don’t like to eat their mash at vet checks. I think they just want to see what everyone else has and take their pick, smorgasbord style. If they eat well in the days before the ride (I pretty much free feed them with their hay) I wouldn’t worry about them not wanting a particular item during the ride as long as they eat something. Remember, they are using the energy they consumed on Thursday if you’re riding on Saturday, right? Small snacks along the way, a handful of oats, carrots, or apples occasionally can help give them the energy they need to keep the systems functioning including appetite. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
