Re: [RC] [RC-Digest] Vol: 03.4699 - Barbara McCrary

This is exactly why I don't like the idea of attaching the breastplate to the saddle in any way BEFORE the saddle is girthed.  I just watch carefully for the loop should it fall on the ground when I unsaddle, then pick it up and snap it onto the girth until the next time I use it.  Then unsnap it, girth the saddle with the loop on the girth, then attach the breastplate.

Another way to solve this problem is to NOT unhook the girth loop from
the breast collar before you undo the girth, and just slip the girth
loop (while still attached to the breast collar) off the girth (and
leave it attached to the breast collar).
This would defeat the purpose of why I've switched to a clip-on breast collar....my horse would pull back, and one time he did it right after I'd put the girth through the loop, but before I got the girth fastened.  It was a mess.  So now the saddle goes on, girth gets fastened, THEN the breast collar gets attached! (BTW...horse has not had a pull-back incident all winter, so I must be doing something right!)
