[RC] Secure seat - k s swigartDiane T said: Some riders think that the longer their stirrups are, the deeper they will sit in the saddle and the more secure they will be. If some riders think this, then they are decieved. The longer your stirrups, the less secure you are on the horse (that is why jumpers ride with a shorter stirrup than dressage riders do). The trade off between short stirrups and longer stirrups comes is the ability to apply leg aids in order to have communication/control. The longer your stirrup, the more effective your leg aids (assuming that you ride well enough to have a balanced seat with that long of a stirrup); the shorter your stirrup, the more security you have. However, in my experience, short stirrups also make for sore knees...but that is because I have arthritis in my knees. kat Orange County, Calif. :) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
