Re: [RC] horse that limits portions on her own. - Kari HanesMel,My mare eats all her grain but always turned her nose at carrots, apples, fresh corn, etc. A couple years ago Jeanie offered her a carrot at a vet check - she actually ate it! She and Maggie (Jeanie's mare) had given each other dirty looks all day and I guess she figured she could get even by eating Maggie's carrots! So if you happen to ride in Michigan this summer look for Jeanie - she's got magic carrots! Now my mare will eat a carrot if offered, is still finicky about apples but will take a bite now and then. Don't fret if your mare won't eat YOUR carrots - she will probably eat someone else's. Kari Montalee Arabians Holton, MI Mel Cochran wrote: My mare never eats all of her feed. She will eat part of it, stop and move on to her hay. The other horses will finish her portion. She also does this at rides. She has been doing this for a long time so it is not because of sickness or anything like that. I have not cut back on the amount that I put in her feed pan because I keep thinking one day she might want all of it. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
