RE: [RC] DQ if horse needs treatment within an hour of - heidi

I guess I personally have a hard time visualizing a horse that appreciates this.  Every horse I've ever ridden knows when the ride is over, and they don't WANT to be messed with again to be dragged back to the vet after they've started to relax, have their chow handy, and are ready to (as Bruce put it) "party down."  I figure it is far more of a courtesy to my horse to get it done with so that when he gets back to his trailer and is all cleaned up and busy eating, he is truly DONE.

I've had a couple of horses that were downright crabby about the fact that they had to go back in an hour for BC when they've top tenned--they figure that the fat lady has already sung, and that they have earned the right not to have the hassle of being dragged away from their cozy digs and their hay pile.

I'm with you Lynne, I usually like to take full
advantage of the 1 hr post finish before I vet my
horse.  If the finish is out of camp I will get off
and lead my horse back to camp letting them graze to
their hearts desire.  I figure they have given me 50
miles of riding and the least I can do is indulge them
a good meal before trotting out for completion.
