The AERC rule is pretty clear - after the completion exam the ride is over. If you want to give your horse bute - have at it. If your horse starts to colic - get it treated. For you the event is over.

See rule 6.2.1.1. ..... Once a competing equine has passed the post-ride examination, it may not be removed from completion for veterinary reasons.

While many think this is true - it isn't.

If it were true - riders might withhold needed treatment to make that 1
hour so they get their completion.

Once a horse is given a completion - it cannot be withdrawn even if the
horse is treated 20 seconds later.
