Re: [RC] [Newbie Question - Patty P

Well, maybe I should pay closer attention to the words I choose...sit the jog. :)

The horse I have now does not know how to do a nice smooth jog, he is very green on the trail, but has a very nice extended gait, so I usually post or stand, however, I have ridden quite a few that are built to move at a nice smooth sweeping jog that you could sit all day. It depends on the horse and the training.

I have never heard of anyone sitting to the trot on the trail, but maybe I've missed something somewhere.  I post, my husband stands in the stirrups.  It's a matter of taste and comfort, I suspect.  I think anyone who tries to sit a trot on the trail for very long will become very sore, and the horse's back may also.

How do most of you ride down the trail when trotting? Sitting, posting, standing or all three?
