Decomposed Granits.  Larger particles, not like beach sand. 

wet it, level it with a 2 x 4 (2 people), tamp down with sheep's foot--you can 
rent one- and repeat until you have a fairly level floor.
Also "crusher dust" can be obtained in some locales.  That's sorta the crumbs 
from the rock quarry when they are sorting  materiel by size.  Crusher dust is 
very cheap.
