Re: [RC] Hey One Tonners (I mean your truck, not YOU) - Diane TrefethenHey Kristi -I know you're gonna hear from folks with duallies who love 'em but you know, not all of us can afford stuff like that. I had a one ton. I called it my Won Ton. It was a Toyota. It was a 1986 with a great granny gear. I hauled my 15'3" Endurance horse in a two horse. Our personal best was to the Derby Ditch. Bay Area to Fernley, NV, and back averaging 20 mpg. Yeah, it was slow at the top of hills, but it never stalled or quit or anything. Heck, the only hill it couldn't get up was at the first vet check at a SASO ride. Hard packed dirt covered with sand. Just couldn't handle the sand. I really loved my Toyota. Hmmm... that has a ring to it. Think they might be able to use it in an ad? Once on my way home from a ride, I stopped on the vertical driveway to chat with a neighbor. When I told my friend up the road about it, she said she NEVER stopped on that hill 'cause she just knew she'd have to back down and start again. She hauled with either her big Chevy or her BIGGER Ford. Does that mean that size isn't really important? I miss my Toyota. When I wasn't hauling - oh, the main reason I bought it was 'cause I needed to tow but I also needed a fuel-efficient commute vehicle - that truck handled like a sports car. No over-steer, easy shifting, great cornering... well, until we hit the slime patch at 40mph and plowed into the mountainside. Buckled the whole damn body. I really miss my Toyota.
