Re: [RC] Working unclipped horses - Stacy SadarMy personal opinion...don't clip, don't blanket, and ride. If they get soaking wet, use a cooler if you need to dry them off and back to no blanket, outside and free choice hay. The way I look at it is that I wouldn't want to sit around in the house all bundled up then get naked to go work outside in the winter. A few weeks ago, I was over at a training barn and every horse who was put in the cross ties to be tacked up was shivering as soon as the blanket was taken off. They continued to shiver until they were warmed up...sweating. I've never had my shaggy ones shivering. I just worked the you-know-what out of one of my boys on Sunday and he was completely soaked. By the time I walked back to the barn he was cooled off and fairly dry, so outside he went with a pile of hay. He was happy to be out and he never once shivered...it was cold too.
