We lived in frozen WI (much colder than our area of MT) and rode all winter, much of it fast enough to get horses hot and sweaty. Our horses were always out 24/7/365. All we ever did was walk for the last 20 minutes, and then turn them out into the pasture with their buddies. We also did not clip one hair, even from Raj who to quote a previous post has Yak like hair. They were always cool but wet. The year I was rehabing Ranger from a bow, I even rode after dark and well below zero. In 30+ years we never, repeat never, had a problem. There is a vast difference between putting a wet horse into a stall, or tied to a trailer and putting them out into a pasture. Don't worry, your horse will be fine.
